Wounded on 6 April at Shiloh, he was discharged for disability on 10 June 1863.

What are we to make of the three stripes on Hutson's collar? Some militia uniforms had collars with stripes that were purely ornamental---worn by all ranks. In such units the rank insignia of officers was on shoulder boards. But adjusting levels in Photoshop doesn't uncover shoulder boards in this photo. So was Hutson promoted and sat for this portrait post-Shiloh?
