Hardee's Tactics, taken from Shiloh
1855 Hardee's Tactics Captured at Shiloh by Capt. W.A. Alexander Company B, 1st Arkansas Infantry Volume I of Hardee's Tactics printed in 1855. Inscribed twice in the front cover "Wm A. Alexander Book Taken at The Battle of Shiloh April 6th 1862", once in ink once in pencil, and "Camp Near Tupelo". Inscribed on the free front end paper "A.J. Pitner", "Alex. E. Spence Co B 1st Ark Regt", and on the reverse "Andrew J. Pitner Co. B 1st Ark Reg't Polks Brigade Cleburne's Division". Inscribed on the edge of the pages "Co. G 25th Regt Mo Vol".
William Alexander served as a Captain in Company B, 1st Arkansas Infantry, WIA at Murfreesboro Tennessee, December 31, 1862. Died in a Federal Hospital Jan. 15, 1863. Alexander Spence also served as a Captain in Company B, 1st Arkansas Infantry. Andrew A. Pitner, served as a Lieutenant in Company B, 1st Arkansas Infantry, WIA at Chickamauga September 20, 1863, mortally wounded at the Battle of Peachtree Creek on July 20, 1864, and died from his wounds on August 8, 1864.
