2nd Lt. Alexander E. Spence, Company B, 1st Arkansas Infantry CS
Enlisting as a Private, Spence was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 1 April 1862, just 5 days before Shiloh. Spence was seriously wounded in the thigh at Shiloh on 6 April 1862 at about 2 p.m., in a position "left of centre" according to his military records; the "left of centre" referring to the position of the 1st Arkansas Infantry on the battlefield. Recovering from his wound, Spence was later promoted to Captain of Company B. He was killed on 30 November 1864 at the Battle of Franklin, Tennessee.
