1st Sgt. Horace H. Widows, Company H, 8th Iowa Infantry

Horace Widows was the only son of John and Nancy Widows.  Born in Indiana, he lived in Union Mills, Iowa and enlisted on 12 August 1861.  He was captured at Shiloh on 6 April 1861.  Sent south as a Prisoner of War, he died in Macon, Georgia on 26 June 1862 due to the effects of typhoid fever while he was still a POW.  He is buried in Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville, Georgia.
