Cpt. Francis Fessenden, Company C, 19th US Infantry
Born in Maine and a graduate of Bowdoin College in 1858, Fessenden suffered a severe arm wound at the Battle of Shiloh. In the fall of 1862 he was promoted to Colonel of the 25th Maine Infantry and later served as Colonel of the 30th Maine Infantry. He was eventually promoted to Major General in 1865.
