Cpl. George Lemon Childress, Birge's Western Sharpshooters, Company I, 66th Illinois Infantry

Cpl. George Lemon Childress, Birge's Western Sharpshooters, also known as the 14th Missouri Infantry and also as Company I, 66th Illinois Infantry. This unit of sharpshooters served on the extreme right flank of the Federal Army at Shiloh. They engaged Brewer's Alabama Cavalry Battalion in Glover Field on the evening of 6 April 1862 as the Alabamians attempted to make a flank attack. As for Childress, he enlisted in 1861 as a Corporal and mustered out in 1865.

Another member of Birge's Western Sharpshooters.  Cpl. Elias Reigle who served in Company H.  Reigle, like Childress, enlisted in 1861 and mustered out in 1865.
