Lt. Col. Barton S. Kyle, 71st Ohio Infantry. He was killed on 6 April 1862 at the Battle of Shiloh while trying to rally his men who were fighting the 19th Alabama Infantry. The 71st Ohio Infantry marker is located at the Field Hospital site on the Federal left flank by the Larkin Bell field.

Amazing, to see a picture of this man... a true patriot, who stood and fought (while much of his regiment drifted away to safety, beneath the bluff at Pittsburg Landing.) The other interesting Fact associated with LtCol Kyle: Newspaper reporter, Whitelaw Reid, stayed with him for a spell, in March 1862, while waiting for the march on Corinth to commence... (interrupted by the Battle of Shiloh.)
