Iowa Private at Shiloh with 15 Iowa

Recommended Posts

The 15th Iowa was green when it disembarked from steamers at Pittsburg Landing the morning of April 6, 1862. This article includes information about both the 15th & 16th Iowa Infantry Regiments but it also details the life of a soldier - a farmer from Iowa who enlisted January 20, 1862 and arrived at Pittsburg Landing April 6, 1862, he fought with his regiment in the Battle of Shiloh, got mumps and died June 2, 1862. He was buried at the landing leaving a young pregnant wife and 5 kids at home in Iowa.
