Louisiana Confederates Killed or Wounded at Shiloh

Recommended Posts

I don't know about this offhand, but from what I understand it was pretty common for newspapers to carry a list of killed and wounded from one of the battles, so chances are a list like the one you seek probably was published.

I would think your best bet would be one or more of the following. You may have tried any or all of this of course, so if some of it is redundant, my apologies -

First, the staff at the park itself. You can contact them by phone at 731-689-5696. If they don't know of an actual list, they could probably point you in the right direction.

Second, I don't know about other papers around New Orleans during the war, but the Daily Picayune would probably have carried such a list if one was published in New Orleans. You could contact the Times-Picayune at this site, below, and they might be able to give you a good lead...

I don't know as this is the same exact paper, but it couldn't hurt to contact them.

There is also this site I came across, from the Library of Congress...

Finally, maybe your best bet of all would be the Louisiana State Historical Society, the state museum, and/or the historical society of the parish where one or more of the companies from the 17th was recruited from. Here's the web site for the historical society...

If you click on the "Resources" link on the left side of the screen, it will bring up a long list of research topics.

Here's the state museum web site...

There's a "Contact Us" link on the left side of the screen.

Best of luck, Michael.
