Col. James Shane Alban, 18th Wisconsin Infantry

He was mortally wounded at Shiloh on 6 April at about 1 o'clock, shot from his horse as he rallied his men in the Hornet's Nest.  Shot through the lungs by a musket ball, according to his widow's pension application, he died the same day, by some other accounts, or the next day, by others, on a transport barge near Savannah, Tennessee.
